1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent | NGC MS63 RB
From $3,000.00
The 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent is the crown jewel of the Lincoln Wheat cent series, and this example has been certified MS63 RB by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC). Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1909 — the very first year of the Lincoln cent — the 1909-S VDB carries a mintage of just 484,000 pieces, making it one of the lowest-production issues in the entire 20th-century U. S. cent series. The "VDB" initials belong to sculptor Victor David Brenner, whose bold monogram on the reverse caused a public controversy that led the U. S. Mint to halt production after only days, cementing this coin's place in American numismatic history. The obverse presents Lincoln's portrait with LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, while the reverse features Brenner's classic wheat-ear design with ONE CENT and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The NGC MS63 RB designation confirms uncirculated surfaces with a pleasing blend of original red and brown patina. Housed in a tamper-evident NGC slab with holographic security label, this coin arrives ready for display in any advanced collection.
